Hello,
Welcome to my first blog at Dramatherapy Ireland. Yay!
Okay so before we talk about this amazing grounding technique let’s take a look at what is Dramatherapy!
Dramatherapy is the use of theatre techniques to facilitate personal growth and promote mental health.
Through play we can touch on issues that may be arising and process them by expressing oneself. Emotions, behaviours and situations can be explored through drama games, role play, storytelling, puppetry, masks, myths and fairytales.
At Dramatherapy Ireland, we provide a creative space that allows children to express themselves in a safe and confidential environment. We are specialised in autism, anxiety, attachment issues & bereavement. We have a passion to guide parents in the right direction to promote healthy relationships and healthy minds.
When we are feeling very anxious, it can help us to have tools or techniques we can use to calm ourselves down. This grounding exercise helps children who may in distress or suffer from anxiety. It is perfect for an anxious child as it is visual, imaginative and involves using your senses. It can be used as any point of the day for a sense of calm and to be in the present moment.

TIP:
If they are struggling to see, hear, feel etc. you can encourage them to use their imagination for example : What would you like to taste?
I also have a colourful image to help with using this grounding technique. Check out below!
I hope this is helpful and can be popped into your anxious survival toolkit for when needed in tricky situations!
At Dramatherapy Ireland, we offer a free consultation where we will discuss the issues arising. We will then arrange an initial meeting/ assessment where we will assess the patients needs and create a treatment plan. We will also recommend a number of sessions that we feel would be beneficial in order to provide the best treatment we possibly can. Once we have reached the initial number of sessions we can arrange to review and discuss further. We are very passionate about providing parents and children with the best possible supporting mechanisms.
